In the UK, the right of substitution for self-employed individuals is their contractual ability to send a suitably qualified replacement to perform their work. This is a key indicator used by HMRC to determine genuine self-employment status and distinguish them from employees. Rodeo gives workers the ability to appoint a substitute to perform their work whilst also giving you visibility of who has been appointed.

How it works

1

You set the requirements

In the portal, set what checks the substitute needs to satisfy.
2

Worker appoints substitute

In the app, the worker can add whoever they want using their name and phone number.
3

Substitute onboards

The substitute receives an SMS inviting them to download the Rodeo app and go through the onboarding checks as set out in Step 1.
4

Business gets visibility

In the portal, the business can see who has been invited and the status of their checks.
